Overall reliability

very functional and easy to live with

Had this for 8 months since new. No problems at all. Very quiet and smooth on motorways-can easily creep to 90mph without noticing. Returns about 40mpg at steady indicated 80mph. Can drop as low as 34mpg in mixed driving. Engine docile at low revs but surprisingly rapid when vvti on song. Comfy in first two rows. Third row okay for up to 12 year olds. Flexible space inside.
Downside is it doesnt look great. Headrests are too far away from occiput (swedes get this right) Audio sound is not that great. Optomistic speedo and not very accurate mpg meter.
Upside of low running costs, fantastic reliability, really good dealers who will look after you with value for money service plans, proper warranties and super residuals.
If you do need space for 6 or 7 and luggage then look for an avensis verso D4D - ran one for several years, car like, bags of space, 45 mpg and ultra reliable. But if you are down to 5 plus luggage then the new verso will do perfectly. (or occasional 6 + light luggage)
