Very Poor Towing Vehicle

Purchased a brand new land cruiser for the one & only purpose of towing a 1900Kg twin axel caravan. Unfortunately the auto box in the LC is not suited for this task. It simply will not stay in top gear unless the terrain is completely flat or down hill, You find the gearbox is always hunting between 3rd/4th & occasionally 5th. The down side to this is you find the engine is always revving & fuel consumption is only around 18Mpg. My other car is a 2008 Mercedes E 280 CDI & this is the complete opposite, this car gets into 7th gear (Auto) very quickly, pulls strongly, effortlessy & can still returning 30Mpg. Unfortunately the caravan is on the heavy side & brings the car to its weight limit. The dealership is currently talking to Toyota's technical people, but I feel if this is going to have to be swapped very shortly for a Land Rover Discovery or a Mercedes M class.
