Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2009)
1.8 VVT-i 5dr Hatchback T3-X auto
Solid, reliable, dull
Wafts along quite nicely once you get it moving, although achieving cruising speed tends to be a time consuming affair; you have to really plan overtakes. But it cruises at 70 on the motorway all day, which is what I bought it for. Returns a solid 37-39 mpg and uses no oil.
Very reliable, nothing has broken in 3+ years and 35,000 miles, bonnet only gets lifted to top up the washer fluid reservoir. Auto wipers are impressively efficient, auto lights are a waste of time. Dashboard ergonomics poor, switches seem to have been randomly thrown at the dashboard. Clock only visible to driver.
Boot is huge, some areas of trim seem a bit low rent but no big deal. Seat positioning is very critical for me to avoid back pain (not something I've suffered from with previous cars)
Overall as boringly comfortable and reliable as you'd expect a 'Japanese' car to be.
