Suzuki S-Cross (2022 on)
Motion Boosterjet 129 MHEV Start/Stop 5dr
A hidden gem - safe, spacious, economical and beautifully built.
The new Suzuki S-Cross is a relatively rare sight on Britain's automotive landscape, but honestly I don't know why. Fully loaded with safety kit, good technology, a brilliant, frugal yet powerful hybrid engine and a ride quality perfectly matched to our terrible roads, this gem of a family car should be high-up on your list. The interior is smart and simple and built to last - everything you need and more comes as standard. The boot is plenty big enough and fairly flexible and there's lots of room for all passengers and the driver.
It's a car that defies expectations and has some clever tricks up its sleeve; it's very easy to park, it doesn't weigh much, and it's not actually that big, yet the interior could easily be from the next class up space-wise. The engine is only a 1.4 petrol hybrid, yet pulls with the heft of a decent turbo-diesel and accelerates pretty quickly when asked. 50mpg on a mix of roads is very achievable and the ride cossets you nicely over most surfaces - it's quiet too. Haul it along a good road, and it grips and steers nicely, and the car seems happiest at speed.
I've never felt happier after buying a car, and I've rarely felt so confident about a purchase of anything. It's a car to admire, for very little outlay, and feels like a trusted companion. It's honest, well engineered and handsome.
