Solid, reliable and practical

The Exeo has been a good car, I bought it from a dealer with 20K miles on it, and driven it myself for 35K miles Having had VW products in the past I wasn’t surprised by the torquey strength on the engine. What was a little disappointing was the MPG, it was not as good as my previous Passat, but I suspect the difference is the particulate filters required on all diesels now has hit the MPG figures.

Other negatives are is that it is a little heavy on the front tyres and the space is the estate’s rear is not as big as you would think. SEAT have fitted trim into each wheel arch that extends inwards which reduces the width of the boot. Stuff that would lie flat on the floor of my old Golf estate will not in the Exeo. The retractable luggage cover that clips onto the rear seats is ridiculously heavy, it makes it hard to fold the rear seats up, and as it is on the back of the larger of the 2 rear seats you cannot fold down the bigger seat and leave the smaller one up with it fitted.

The ride is firm, but not uncomfortable, personally I like that. The level of equipment is very good. The fit and finish is usual VW/Audi standard – solid. At 53K miles the dash and trim still looks as good as it did when I bought it. Seats are supportive and comfortable. Leg room is tight in the back for the size of car, but the later models have a revised seat to help that I believe. My 6 year old doesn’t have an issue with it.

Despite a few negatives, the EXEO will be high on the list of cars to replace this one at the end of this year.
