Renault Clio (2005 - 2009)
Dynamique S 1.6 VVT 3dr
Great car, despite some silly interior problems
Owned one of these for one year, only sold due to new addition to family and needing something with five doors. Otherwise I think I would have had it a long time. Very pleasant to drive around town, nippy and easy to drive. Reasonably economic. Fantastic equipment levels, better than my current much more expensive ford. Handles well. I preferred the drive to the much-vaunted new Fiesta which I had for a week as a hire car and found the clio cornered just as well (on normal roads mind, not on a racetrack!) and braked much, much sharper. On the downside, there are some stupid design points like the interior fascia layout which appears to have been designed by a fiend, the cupholders are under a curved sill so many cups won't fit and the stereo almost sits behind the gear lever, speed limiter and cruise control switches are too low down to look at while driving so you have to basically remember where they are and which is which. Also some of the access points for headlamps are very difficult to get to if you are inclined to change the bulbs yourself. But this is common to a lot of modern cars. Worst point of the car is the flimsy headlamp switch on the indicator stalk which is easy knocked and on several occasions I inadvertently switched off the headlamps when cornering or indicating right. Having said all that this I'd have another one tomorrow if I needed a small hatch.
