Peugeot 208 (2012 - 2019)
Active Pure Tech 1.2 Vti 82 5dr Hatchback
Don't bother with this car. Get Mazda 2 instead.
I've had this car for 3 weeks as courtesy car.
The first impression was good. Its good looking, cabin is nice, big screen, very nice instrument cluster (digital and classic speedo is a nice combo), hand steering wheel (a bit to thick though).
And that's where the good things end.
First - the engine. It allegedly has 82hp. And allegedly does 50+mpg. Right.
The engine has no power. None whatsoever. It doesn't matter what gear you're in, what the revs are. The car is sluggish to a point where joining traffic, pulling into roundabouts or merging lanes is a nerve wracking experience.
Clutch pedal has about 4 inches travel but bites at the very top. Worse still, you can let go of the clutch, the car rolls forward but there is no drive. You floor it hoping to get onto the intersection and... nothing. The car gingerly inches forward for a few seconds and then starts to go. Not good when you need to do things quickly.
Gear change is hopeless. You throw the stick around hoping to hit a gear.
I've used this car in town. On the 1st day I've filled in 20quid (around 17 liters) and it lasted me about 70 miles. Which is about as good as a 3+ liter petrol would do. 50+ avg mpg indicated comes from the fact the car doesn't measure consumption if it's doing less that 10-ish mph (clever trick isn't it?).
The seats offer no support at all but are otherwise adequate.
If you're thinking about buying one of these- don't. Seriously. Add another 500 - 1000 quid and buy Mazda 2 1.3 which is light years ahead of this french box.
