Peugeot 207 SW (2007 - 2013)
207sw hdi Allure
Boring but practical and very economical
Bought for commuting to work, typically 500 miles per week on about 25% country roads and 75% motorway. The overall running costs are great, taking it steady I average 65 mpg (and have run in low 70s), take it quickly and it drops to about 55 mpg. Add on £30 pa tax and insurance of ca. £200 pa, it is very cheap motoring.
Things I like: running costs, glass roof, comfort, stereo, bluetooth, Aircon, engine, cabin noise, size of boot, reversing sensors, accuracy of trip computer.
I don't like: Gearbox (agricultural and only a 5 speed), lack of cruise control, stereo controls on a separate stalk not on steering wheel, cupholders in a poor place, no left arm rest.
Neutral stuff: the handling is ok (not bad) but not exciting, happiest between 40 and 70 mph.
I purchased mine with 68k miles on it, it has required: one front wishbone, one strut top bearing and one spring as well as usual servicing plus tyres.
Overall it is a practical and very economical car with no major reliability issues (now 10 years old and 82k miles), it's a shame Peugeot don't do a small estate anymore (does anyone?), if you want simple and cheap motoring and aren't too bothered about speed and dynamic handling give one a try....
