MINI Hatch (2007 - 2013)
Cooper 3dr Hatchback
Get an R56 before its too late!
I'm six foot four and my 2007 plate R56 is perfect, the seat travels further back than the earlier rattly cramped model. Nevermind all the t*** about the R56 Peugeot engine, that is snobbery and unfounded subjective nonsense - if oil and filters get renewed, it is as relaible as any other engine. The earlier Mini was not as well made as some suggest, and I've experienced firsthand the poor finish, unreliable gearbox, transmission and power steering whine, electrical failures that will prevent you getting into the car - a very unpleasant experience!
My R56 had 39k and was 10 year sold when I purchsed her, one owner with full stamped genuine service history. I've had Winnie for over a year, only expense is usual servicing, oil, filters, tyres and that lovely petroleum stuff. Avoid the diesel as the petrol sounds and feels much better, has less to go wrong, so what if it does less MPG - if thats an issue, consider another make of car.
An R56 is fast(ish), lovely driving position, corners like a train on rails, looks gorgeous and is better screwed together than earlier model. The 2014 new Mini is a mockery, basically a BMW with padding. A true drivers version is the 2007 onwards car, now getting hard to find in good condition. Apparently, I've only lost £200 per year depreciation, now thats unreal!
