MINI Convertible (2016 - 2024)
Mini Cooper Convertible
Expensive mistake
Initially all OK driving wise but minor irritations e.g. boot opens down so if raining water gets in when loading/unloading, also items catch on the side of the boot.
Car is now 2 years 4 months old with 7600 miles then the problem:
Only drove 4 miles when warning light came on saying clutch hot, safe to continue driving as not damaged.. This was on a Saturday, next day same again only driven 1 mile, unable to contact dealer due to Covid closure. On the Monday sent email to Mini dealer which must have been forwarded to BMW as they rang. Informed them about the warning messages and they said they would need to inspect it but had no car available for 2 weeks so pre-booked it in. Next day after driving less than a mile the car broke down and had to call for emergency breakdown who towed to BMW dealer as Mini Dealer still closed due to Covid.
The result of it all - having paid £20,000 in April 2018, only done 7600 miles they say the clutch and flywheel need replacing as burnt out. Not under warranty as due to 'driving style'.
As I drove my previous car for 14 years prior to buying the Mini and had no clutch issues I fail to see why my driving caused the clutch to burn out. Also why did the warning sign state the clutch was not damaged and can continue driving when 3 days later it breaks down.
The bill from BMW was £2454.01 and it sickens me as enquiries as to the cost from other garages vary from £995 to £1245 to include parts, labour and VAT.
Total rip off
