MG 6 (2011 - 2016)
GT TSE
A surprisingly good car that encompasses the MG brand of value-for-money handling and performance.
Forget the negative road tests and ill-informed internet gossip, this is a very good car from a very supportive new MG. I can't fault the local dealership, either. Our MG6 was hit by another car; the MG Aftercare programme was superb in ensuring we were back on the road quickly. No worries on parts! The MG6 is actually cheaper to run than our Mazda5 was. Lower servicing costs, & a big insurance saving thanks to the Grp 14 rating. MPG is around 31mpg in local town use only, what we got in the Mazda diesel.
The handling and performance is very good. The engine is smooth. The gearbox is nicely spaced for the wide torque band and in 5th the rpm is lower than a comparable Insignia in 6th gear. The handbrake easy to use. The key feels light, but it's not a big weight in your pocket. The interior could do with some bottle storage, and can feel cheap in certain areas such as the cup-holder. Overall, for the price, the quality is better than we had in the Mazda, and the spec. list far exceeds many other more expensive cars. The sat-nav could do with post code entry, but the hands-free kit works well.
Safety; our car was hit on the front off-side and my wife suffered no injuries. This safer design means a higher waist line so even older children will need booster seats in the back, but there's heaps of room in the back & in the boot.
An excellent first car from the new MG company, designed in the UK, with all the DNA of previous MGs in terms of handling and performance! Go and try one, you will be pleasantly surprised!
