Mazda 3 (2019 on)
2.0 Skyactiv-X 180 GT Sport Auto 5dr
Very impressive
Looks good and is very quiet. Haven't noticed any visibility issues at all, although if the rear view camera gets dirty it can be interesting. Remarkably economical and will match or exceed WLTP combined figure on a run.
The SkyActiv-X engine makes a very faint pinking sound at about 2300rpm under load. This is apparently normal due to the SPCCI technology. Super unleaded almost eliminates this noise but mpg remains the same.
I had to buy the auto as someone else without a manual licence drives it. The auto is nothing to write home about (they never are) but integrates very well with the start-stop and auto hold systems.
Handling is ok but it is a front-heavy car and can't be thrown into adverse camber bends - the outside tyre really weights up and it doesn't like to corner fast.
The most annoying driver assistance systems like LDWS can be completely turned off, which is a vast improvement over my last Mazda.
Overall I like it a lot and am glad to get out of SUVs and back into a proper car. The only downside of this is that cars depreciate more than SUVs.
I have a grey one because that's what was in stock, but it's one of the few cars that looks really good in white.
