Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2009)
2.2D se
Civilised. Quick, Good controls, Practical, Economical
I had a 2006 2.2D Sport which had 18" wheels which gave a very harsh ride. Then a 2007 BMW 118d SE (facelift) which was a good car with wonderful steering and a good engine, but I never liked it because it was uncomfortable - seats and ride and had heavy steering, clutch and gears. And it was too small.
So I've gone back to an X Type Estate - but the 2.2d SE version with 17" wheels. Better than both the above.
And it will tow my 1926 Model T (about 1350kg inc trailer).
Which brings me to my main point. I don't think HJ is right about not recommending towing with an X Type. My research and subsequent experience does not bear out what he says. I bought a used towbar and dedicated (but non-Jaguar) electrics and it all went together very easily - you have only to un-plug each rear light and fit the towing loom in series, and connect to the 12v socket provided. Could hardly be easier. And friends say that the car tows well.
