Hyundai i40 Tourer (2011 - 2019)
1.7 Blue Drive
This is all I expected it to be - very good.
The claimed mpg is 62, but the real figure is 49 (with gentle right foot). It is very comfortable and is very good on long journeys where the mpg could get to 55. It is very comfortable and the load-carrying capacity is outstanding. Most of the gimmicks are OK but I always disable the stop/go facility (ISG) - in my opinion it is a waste of time. Rear view camera, parking sensors front and back and Autohold are very good features although I worry about the day when the Autohold might not work becauase there is no handbrake.
My mileage is not reallyenough to justify a diesel with DPF but I have taken the gamble. Whenever I get the opportunity I will drive for about 25 miles at no less than 2750 rpm and I just hope that the practice will protect me from future problems.
Just one more point - I volunteered to have the Gardex Treatment when I bought the car. The only observation I can make is that I have never seen a car with such a paint finish. I have been polishing cars fror over 60 years (I,m 82) and I have never achieved such a finish - not even with solid Simoniz wax (and that was hard work!).
Its performance is adequate for an octagenarian but it will never win the race from the traffic lights. At 70 mph it does 2250 rpm.
