Hyundai i30 Tourer (2017 - 2022)
1.4 T-GDi 140 SE Nav DCT 5dr Estate
Great all round estate car with lots of bells & whistles and good performance & handling
I bought this car mainly on Honest John's recommendation and after a test drive. It replaced a 62 plate Skoda Octavia 1.4 petrol turbo with a very dodgy DSG gearbox; which is one reason I didn't buy the class-leader Golf Estate (which uses the same DSG) which HJ said was still an on-going issue.
The i30s got good performance, stylish, comfortable, drives well, lots of room. We used it on day 3 to take a sofa bed to the tip. It also feels more solid than the Skoda, the doors close with a nice clunk. It's also got higher performance. It's got lots of features, lots of buttons on the steering wheel & dash; many of which I have yet to figure out to use.
Now the down-sides: the brochure claims 51.4 combined MPG; well I've been driving it for two weeks & covered 700 miles of mainly rural and dual carriageways and have managed an average 42mpg driving like my late-dad. The Skoda would achieve 50 mpg over the identical roads and driving style.
It also comes as standard with Autonomous Emergency Braking and a week after taking delivery the warning light came on saying that the warning camera was blocked and the AEB was disabled. After suffering this warning light coming on on every journey over five days intermittently, I called the dealer to report the fault and was told that this was a software fault and as yet they had no cure for it, but they'd call me as soon as they had a cure..........
