Honda FR-V (2004 - 2009)
1.8i VTEC SE 5dr Auto People Carrier
Ronsealmobile
Tight with 3-up across front row, but manages 3 baby seats across the back unlike most regular cars.
Auto is NOT an automated clutch effort as reported in some reviews, but a traditional torque-converter. Shifts themselves are super-smooth although it can be a bit tardy to kick-down. HJ must have missed the little button under the left-thumb (I never noticed it for nearlty a fortnight!) that switches the 'box to just the first 3 ratios, rather than using all 5. He is indeed correct about only having 1st and 2nd lockable although the D3 setting works well for engine braking from around 65mph or preventing gravity making long descents more risky.
Top gear (5th) locks up at a very leggy 29-30mph/1000rpm - manages surprisingly well for a 1.8 NA petrol.
Standard front, side and curtain bags are complemented by Stability Control (VSA) which also doubles as traction control (helpful on the snow/icy roads of late).
For carrying 6 plus a decent boot it beats the Multipla easily on looks and drive.
