Honda Civic Tourer (2014 - 2017)
1.6 i-DTEC SR 120 5dr Estate
A very good all round car
Bought this recently as an ex demonstrator with 5000 miles on the clock. This is the 2015 range refresh version that has a sharper front end, and a range of minor improvements throughout. It also has the 18" Hydrogen wheels and sports styling pack that give it a purposeful look. I have had some very favourable comments about this car.
It replaces a 2013 9th Gen 2.2 iDtec Civic Hatch that I put 60,000 trouble free miles on in 2 years.
Initial impressions after the first couple of weeks and 2000 miles............
Its like the similar 2013 hatch I had but so much more refined. It drives really well on the 225 section tyres and the handling feels better than the hatch. I put this down to the lighter weight of the 1.6 engine being better suited to the front suspension and the really good control of body roll of the adaptive rear suspension. I hauled 10 bags of sand (250kg) in the back yesterday and the drive was still excellent even though the car was sitting very low.
The load space is immensely practical and there is massive room in the boot, plus the 2 under floor storage lockers hold a lot. The cargo net in the right side is also very practical and this one came with the dog guard and Honda boot liner. The moulded rubber liner has a series of adjustable dividers, good for keeping the boot tidy and these cleverly flatten into channels in the liner when not needed.
The passenger cabin has had minor tweaks during the life of the car and the SR trim is lovely with full leather interior and the infotainment system and sat nav. The old analogue radios were a let down in Hondas but this 8 speaker DAB system is fantastic. Honda have listened to the feedback and the little things show. The previous fuel filler lever and boot opener in the footwell were easy to mistake but the moulding has been altered with a divider between the levers to improve this. The rear camera has improved functionality with the predictive trajectory on the guide lines.
I thought the seat positions etc would be identical to the hatchback but my rear seat passengers tell me theres more room in the back. I think its because the roof line is slightly higher than the hatch which gives this impression of space.
The 1.6 Dtac diesel engine is a peach of a power plant. It doesn't have the hooligan grunt of the old 2.2 but for normal motoring its hard to tell the difference. Certainly at lower revs, the power feeds in earlier than the 2.2 and it doesn't have the annoying turbo lag, instead it pulls immediately from 1200 rpm. Its good at all speeds and handles motorway cruising with ease and I haven't noticed it being noisy or harsh. Economy is good, its easy to get 60mpg and the onboard computer can give you loads of information about your driving if you want that.
They now come with variable service intervals so I will review that as time goes on. They also come with 5 years or 5 included services whichever comes first.
So far very impressed. This is an excellent car and one I shall keep for a few years.
UPDATE FEB 2018
The car has now covered 65,000 miles and these have been totally trouble free. It eats the usual tyres and brakes but nothing bad to report. The car has been across Europe carrying 2 bicycles and camping gear inside the car with seats down. Putting the magic seats up means theres a good space for the dogs to sit and a really low floor for them to step in. I have carried several motorbikes (in big chunks) inside the car and loads of building materials. Basically this car does all I ask of it without complaint and after a good clean it still looks like new.
With all the new tax laws coming in on diesels Im reluctant to sell this car and certainly theres nothing better out there for what I need it for.
