Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008)
2.2 CTDi EX Estate
Just goes on and on and on
Bought from Cargiant with 85k on clock and a full history but overdue for a service. Insisted on having a spacesaver fitted instead of the bottle of gunge. Have done all my own servicing replacing oil and filter every 5000 miles (12K recommended is silly for an old engine) and a dose of flushing oil every 10K. Now done 115000 returning average 45mpg and only had one issue in all this time. At 103K the exhaust manifold cracked and although there were two stamps missing from the service book Honda replaced it entirely at their cost and gave me a brand new Civic while they did it. The reliability on this car is extraordinary and so is that diesel engine. I have never driven a diesel that pulls steadily like a petrol engine from tickover to the red line without fuss.
Only current problem is tired gas struts on (heavy) tailgate: a common problem apparently. They are reasonably accessible for replacement. Everything else just goes on working.
The load area is larger (as is the tailgate 'hole') than my e39 5 series BMW that this replaced. Last week I carried a washing machine and a cooker with ease. I could have squeezed in a tumble dryer as well! In deep snow and ice with a light right foot the car pulls away uphill. The traction control is progressive and not intrusive just helping when you get careless.
