Ford Focus (2004 - 2007)
2.0 Titanium Petrol
Would have been a nice car had it not been neglected in the past.
This was out 3rd Focus after a Mk1 1.6, and a mk2 1.8 sport.
The 2.0 engine transforms the car compared to the 1.8, and despite being more powerful and torquey it is actually better on fuel. The gearing is also better, the 1.8 could feel a bit undergeared on the motorway.
Build and reliability has been good, but sadly before I got the car it appears to have been neglected. There are signs of rust on the underbody, arches and front wings. All of which could have been prevented had the previous owner bothered to clean the mud out every now and again. The engine also has a thirst for oil, which I believe is caused by stuck oil control rings. A consequence of dirty oil through missed oil changes. It is a shame as the car really does drive well, is comfortable and very economical (40mpg + on a run, and 37mpg in mixed driving)
I would certainly recommend one, but make sure you get a cared for example, not a neglected one like I did. Unfortunately there are lots of them around.
