Overall reliability

100% reliable, economical and pretty well equipped

I had the car now for 2 years and clocked up 30,000 miles.

The best mpg for a tankful was 64mpg - steady motorway driving in sunny weather. But it's never fallen below 56mpg. (5 speed manual gearbox)

I bought this C4 after owning the original style C4 for over five years, which completed well over 80,000 trouble-free miles. The old C4 was economical, comfortable, reliable, stylish and well-equipped.

The new C4 is more economical and just as if not more reliable but lacks the original C4's bold styling - the big central speedo and fixed steering wheel centre have gone. It's gone mainstream and hard to distinguish from boring Astras and the like.

The spec of the VTR+ has changed - in come DRL, fog lamps linked to the steering/trafficators at night, folding mirrors, bluetooth, USB/iPod link, an improved display for the radio and trip computer and reversing sensors but out go auto-lighting, auto-wipers, climate control and the extremely useful shopping pull out in the boot.

This version has a full size steel spare wheel, which is very re-assuring.

The conversion to RHD is just the same - the wipers and handbrake are still set for a driver on the left - but there is now a key hole in the driver's door.

I've had the car for two years now. The initial road tax was "nil"; this year and last year it was £20.

The 12,500 mile service was a fraction over £200 at the supplying dealer's workshop; it was a fraction over £300 for the 25,000 mile (included brake fluid change) and there has been nothing out of order during that time to trigger a warranty claim.

Tyres and brakes are lasting well, though the front tyres will need replacing soon.

The seats are firm and comfortable, but not up to the armchair standards of the original C4 VTR+, but it feels tauter and lighter when driving along.

It's more economical, reliable, comfortable, better equipped (apart from the heated windscreen) and cheaper than SWMBO's 59 F**d F*c*s, which has the same DV6 diesel engine - why the F*c*s is seen as the class benchmark beats me.

Recommended!

[UPDATE]
We're up to 45,000 miles now.

Suffered two punctures, one in each rear wheel, and replaced the fronts at just under 40,000.

MoT no problem, and had the bonnet replaced under warranty for minor paint blemishes at the front. (This seems to be a very common fault according to ther service manager - he had four other C4s in for the same work.)

Fuel consumption holding up in the high 50s, with 60mpg being attained in warm weather on the motorway/autoroute/autopista.

Bluetooth works well with Android phone, as does the USB port and iPod.

Boringly reliable which is just what I need!
