BMW X4 (2018 on)
M40i
Storming performance
I was looking for a replacement for an m240i, but with the power, 4xdrive and the looks, though the X4 m40i was the only one that came up with all 3.
I won’t bother getting into the looks debate, but for me the styling is a bit better than the X3, which is why I went for it.
Inside has great boot and rear seat room - 2 adults in the back won’t complain on long trips, and even with the sloping roofline, there’s plenty of space for what I need in the boot. 2 sets of golf clubs fit just fine without having to fold the seats.
Upfront, the driving styling is very much BMW, all the cars look similar, and if you like that, then you won’t be disappointed.
Driving is very comfortable, but when you toggle to Sport or Sport+, it definitely comes alive and is every bit as nimble as the M240i I had (just more practical).
Economy is so-so at 28mpg, with a mix of comfort/ everyday driving with some sprightly driving also. It’s hard not to be tempted to put your foot down coming out of a 30 or 40 zone and getting to 60 or 70 in a lively fashion (always considering safety).
Has a great set of options, such as head-up display, intelligent safety, automated parking, etc etc. I don’t think they could fit anything more on the car.
Servicing is the usual BMW high cost (though use their website with dealers and prices listed to shop around for the best price, as the 1st years oil change varied £60 between dealers in a 50 mile radius in Scotland where I live.
Had the car a year, though with Covid haven’t been able to do much mileage, but what I have been able to do has put a smile on my face.
The dealer I purchased from was great, not overly pushy and gave me a cracking deal (for a 17 plate m240i) that I’d have been stupid to turn down.
Very happy with the purchase, and would definitely consider buying the same again
