BMW 5 Series Touring (2017 on)
520D 2.0 M Sport Auto 5dr
Flawless build quality and beautiful driving experience, what's not to like?
Replaced my F11 tourer in July 2020 after 70000 miles of excellent service. I've had six 5 series now with four being tourers and they seem to get better. My wife drives older 3 series tourers & the build difference is significant. Just shut the doors and compare the feel & sound!
We've always had SE's & this time there were so few SE's about, our nice local dealer offered to loan us an M Sport to persuade us that we'd be happy with the ride & the privacy glass. The sport seats are so comfortable, better than the SE's by a mile. I'm over 6 ft tall & the SE seats were always short for my legs. We've got the basic model with no expensive extras & got the car with a £15,000 discount on list as BMW were 'kick starting' sales after the first lockdown.
Every detail of the build is so sharp & luxurious, the engine & transmission are a step ahead of our previous model. The suspension, steering & brakes are very good even with sport suspension & 18inch run flats.
Fuel economy is also better than the previous model. We were doing 60+ mpg in the summer & around 58 in the autumn winter, although haven't done too much mileage with lockdown & I'm not a racy driver. RFL was a shock at £495!
I bought all the Autglym care pack as Honest John recommended to keep the bodywork in good order. We've a dark blue paintwork which will show scratches much more than our previous one which was silver.
All the modern software & electronics take quite a bit to get used to. I had to get a neighbour with a 4 series to help set up the satnav & I'm sure there are things available I'm not using.
I carry a lot of sailing stuff & find a tourer much more roomy than any SUV. We've done ski trips to France & the car will eat up European roads.
