BMW 3 Series GT (2013 - 2020)
325d M Sport Plus 218 Auto 5dr Hatchback
Distinctively different & fantastic cruiser
Distinctively different sums up the 3 Series Gran Turismo, or 3GT. This offers you more than a 3 Series Touring although with ‘hatchback’ entry to the boot, whilst looking like a Saloon. Not that common the road although you will probably see at least one other if you use the motorways as it is a very relaxed long distance cruiser. The usual range of BMW series engines with great Stop/Start technology helping me average over 51 mpg on the daily commute with my 325D outputting 218bhp.
Great power when needed through the optional 8 speed paddle shift auto box. Rear spoiler pops up at around 68mph to keep the car grounded, and retracts again when the speed drops below 40mph.
I have the M Sport Plus pack with adaptive suspension allowing variations in the stiffness of the damping. Sports mode noticeably enables the ‘boy racer’ feeling, whilst the Comfort mode allows me to wallow along in impressive luxury.
The iDrive system is simple to operate with a large rotary dial on the centre console to scroll through the menus. 8 buttons can be programmed with shortcuts for radio stations, the SatNav, trip computer, and the like.
Usual BMW quality for the interior and the optional Harman Kardon speakers flood the cabin at all speeds. Mine has the optional panoramic sunroof which also floods the cabin with light as well. Better driving visibility than the other models in the range, due to elevated driving position (slightly lower on M Sport Variants) and large glass areas with frameless doors and the large cabin.
Rear legroom is as good, if not better, than a 5 Series. The rear seats fold flat like most hatchbacks, with convenient under floor storage that hides the parcel shelf when needed. Good headroom for adults in the back despite the slope of the hatch, and better than the Saloon or Touring.
Things I would like on mine are adaptive headlights and power fold mirrors. Still, this is the best overall driver’s car that I have experienced so mustn’t grumble!
