Audi A3 (2008 - 2012)
1.6 TDI 5dr Hatchback
This was my first Audi, but I won't be in a hurry to get another one.
I chose this as a company car, rather begrudgingly, as I would have liked something bigger, but the company said 'No'.
It feels like an Audi should - solid, taut and well put together, with
perfectly adequate performance from the base 1.6 diesel. But there have
been a few niggles...
Firstly, in the showroom, I specifically asked if it would come with a sp
are wheel. Yes, said the salesman, but after the 3 month wait for delivery
they had changed their policy. I got an aerosol of sealant which did not do the job when the inevitable puncture happened.
Another serious annoyance is that the car has gone into limp mode a number of times. On one occasion there was a very minor coolant leak and as soon as the 'low coolant' warning flashed up, it went straight into limp mode.
Top up with half a cup of water and it's back to normal. Eventually Audi replaced the water pump which seemed to do the trick. Then, just after it's
first MOT, Audi were delivering it back to me when into 'limp' it goes again. I had a courtesy car for a week that time and I was none the wiser afterwards as to the reason....
Well, it's contract is now up and I will be quite glad to hand it back. It has got less than 40,000 miles on it, but it's starting to sound like an
'old school' diesel, especially when starting from cold. I think I'll go back to a Ford....
