Audi A1 Sportback (2012 - 2018)
1.6TDI sport
Classy small car
Have now done 12,000 miles in this car, bought new. Even with 5 doors the rear is a bit cramped. OK for 2 adults + 2 children or for journeys less than an hour with 4 adults. Boot is not the biggest either. We opted to pay for a space saver spare as the car is occasionally used for long journeys.
The interior is well appointed and classy. Seats are comfortable and the DAB/FM radio is good. Build quality overall is excellent and we have had no issues with reliability to date. It is a great drive with the small steering wheel and firm suspension. Roadholding and handling is very good. We have the mid-sized 17"wheels which give a firm but well controlled ride.
On the down side, fuel consumption has been disappointing, averaging around 55mpg on mixed driving, but will do 65mpg on the motorway. Fuel tank is undersized at only 50 litres and could do with another 5 litres capacity. The gearing is a bit long and it could really do with a 6 speed box with closer ratios. We also used to have smells from the DPF when regenerating, but this seems to have lessened with time.
In summary, a classy small car if a little expensive for what it is.
