Alfa Romeo MiTo (2008 - 2018)
1.6 JTDm Veloce 3dr Hatchback
Looks superb, sadly the drive doesn't quite live up to the looks.
After two Mito's and 23,000 miles I thought I would pop in a quick review for the Honest John site.
The car has great looks and a good interior and, despite Alfa's reputation of old, the car has been faultless both mechanically and electrically.
However, there's a couple of flies in the ointment, the car's ride somehow falls short of both being sporty and comfortable which isn't helped by the numb overly assisted power steering which sadly spoils the brand, and car's, sporty image. Also the paintwork suffers terribly from stone chips, Alfa will rectify this under warranty, but resprays on year old cars I feel are quite poor in this day and age, especially when you're spending between £12k to £18k on a car new.
Economy was reasonable, but a little disappointing for a relatively small diesel engine - 47MPG over the period of ownership whereas I'd have expected more in the region of mid 50s from similar engined cars in the past.
Especially in respect of the above, if I was to buy another Mito, it would be one of the superb petrol MultiAir engines, rather than a diesel, now that these feature in the range.
Dealer experience was pretty poor unfortunately, to the point where the dealer had to order and supply a replacement car due to their errors at order, although to be fair, they did rectify this eventually.
Would I recommend this car to a friend? Tricky, depends what you are after, it's a nice looking car which is quite fun to drive and be in, sadly let down a little by unrefined suspension and artificial feeling steering. Yes - if you want a head turner, No - if you want a proper hot hatch.
