Alfa Romeo Brera (2005 - 2011)
2.2 JTS SV 3dr Coupe
Great Car if You Love Your Alfa's..
I've owned many Alfa's over the years so it's fair to say I know how annoying they can be but my Brera is the best car I've driven since my first Alfa, an Alfasud back in the 1980's.
First the bad..
It's very thirsty, I get around 23mpg on average with a mix of driving.
Not as fast as it looks. I've had mine remapped and this has loosened up the engine and given it a bit more go.
Not much room in the back for passengers but I'm usually on my own it anyway.
Timing chains are a weak spot. Mine had to be replaced along with god knows how many other bits and pieces a year after the first change. However, the weak parts have been upgraded now.
The good.
Great car to drive hard. I've had the springs replaced with Eibach ones and the front suspension bushes replaced with Powerflex ones. This enables proper 4 wheel alignment which greatly improves front tyre wear (a serious problem) and more importantly transforms the handling. It grips like nothing else I've driven and there is great feedback from the steering.
Fantastic looking car. I've lost count of the times people has asked me about it.
Being an Alfa you can pick them up for peanuts. Mine was around 5 1/2 years old with less then 39 thousand miles, FSH and I bought it for 7 grand. This for a car that cost around 28 grand new. If i were buying the same car now I could probably find a similar one for around 5 1/2 grand.
If you want something different and don't need the back seats too often then this is one great Alfa..
