2024 Cupra Tavascan styling, interior and technology

The new Cupra Tavascan is a family-sized SUV coupe, with sporty proportions. From the front, its trio of triangle-shaped LED running lights stand out, as does the ultra-wide ‘black panel’ within the front bumper that forms almost the entire front structure.

A raised central spine in the new Cupra Tavascan’s bonnet sits between aero-tuned air channels, and it has both the Cupra logo and ‘CUPRA’ lettering at the front. There’s plenty of the brand’s trademark copper detailing, too.

The new Cupra Tavascan has plenty of muscular sculpting at the side, which will catch the light out on the road, plus a smoothly-profiled coupe roofline. This feeds into a sharply-cut rear end, shaped to be aerodynamically efficient. A bold LED light bar features a glowing red Cupra logo in the centre. There is, however, no rear wiper.

Inside, the new Cupra Tavascan has a very distinctive dashboard that ‘flows’ from one side to another. The sides wrap into the door panels and a central spile supports it all (with stowage space below). There’s plenty of copper trim and a range of other materials.

It uses the latest Volkswagen Group infotainment system, which is more feature-packed (and more logical to use). The notorious heater sliders are retained at the bottom of the 15.0-inch display, but they are now more sensitive and easier to use. They’re finally illuminated, too.

The new Cupra Tavascan has a sporty steering wheel with proper buttons, including the Cupra ‘e-Boost’ button that gives a temporary hike in power. There’s a colour driver display too.

There’s generous space both front and rear in the new Cupra Tavascan and despite its sporty rear-end design, it also has a voluminous and well-shaped 540-litre boot.

In terms of colours, the new Cupra Tavascan is available in Tavascan Blue, White Silver, Atacama Desert, Basalt Grey and Century Bronze Matt.

2024 Cupra Tavascan engines, performance and fuel economy

All new Cupra Tavascan models have a 77kWh battery. This gives a range of up to 352 miles in rear-wheel drive models and up to 324 miles in VZ all-wheel drive guise. It can use DC rapid chargers, although only at a middling rate of 135kW.

There are two power outputs. The new Cupra Tavascan V1 and V2 feature a 286PS electric motor driving the rear wheels. Acceleratoin from 0-62mph takes 6.8 seconds. The new Cupra Tavascan VZ1 and VZ2 have a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. Total power is 340PS and 0-62mph takes 5.5 seconds.

The new Cupra Tavascan’s platform is shared with models such as the Volkswagen ID.5, but it gets a sportier tune here. Standard models have 19-inch alloys and 21-inch forged alloy wheels with high-performance tyres are available, as is high-spec DCC Sport adaptive suspension.

How can you tell if a new Cupra Tavascan has all-wheel drive?

New Cupra Tavascan with two motors and all-wheel drive carry the lettering ‘VZ’ in their model name. Regular rear-wheel drive models simply carry ‘V’

Can I rapid-charge in a new Cupra Tavascan?

The new Cupra Tavascan does offer DC rapid charging, but the rate of up to 135kW isn’t the fastest around.

What size battery does the new Cupra Tavascan have?

All new Cupra Tavascan feature the same 77kWh battery, for a range of up to 352 miles.
