Renault Scenic 2024: Prices, specs and release date
- New Renault Scenic E-Tech reinvents the popular family SUV
- Five-door, five-seat hatch has a modern crossover-style look
- Pure electric setup gives a range of up to 379 miles
- Arrives in early 2024 with prices from under £45,000
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech arrives in early 2024 to revive a popular model name first launched back in 1996. Originally a people carrier MPV, the new Renault Scenic E-Tech has evolved into a family-focused crossover-style hatch, but still with practicality a key focus.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech sits between the Renault Megane E-Tech family hatch and the Renault Austral family SUV. Like the Megane E-Tech, the new Renault Scenic E-Tech will only be offered in pure electric guise.
Bosses also claim the new Renault Scenic E-Tech is set to be one of the most eco-conscious new cars you can buy, with a quarter of its parts made from recycled materials.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech is set to go head-to-head with the popular Tesla Model Y, which is selling strongly across Europe. Other rivals include the new Peugeot e-3008, Volkswagen ID.4, Nissan Ariya and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech prices and release date
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech is due for launch in early 2024. It is likely to be launched in Europe first, with a UK release date set to follow from spring 2024.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech will be focused on challenging the best-selling Tesla Model Y. Prices may therefore start from under £45,000 in entry-level guise. This will also see it compete with similarly-priced rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 – while the Nissan Ariya now starts from under £40,000.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech will be offered in three trims – entry-level Techno, sporty Esprit Alpine and well-equipped Iconic.
2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech styling, interior and technology
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech has modern, contemporary styling that is much more fashionable than the boxy Renault Scenic MPVs of old. It now has a crossover-style SUV appearance, although it’s intentionally less chunky and lower to the ground than its Renault Austral SUV sibling.
The aero-style front of the new Renault Scenic E-Tech carries the latest Renault logo set within an array of superimposed small diamonds. These appear and disappear according to light and angle. They merge into the headlights, which have a distinct LED welcome sequence and daytime running light.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech has either 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels, both with an aero-efficient design. It has flush door handles and, at the rear, micro-optical technology for the tail lamps.
The new Renault Scenic is available in six body colours – Flame Red, Midnight Blue, Diamond Black, Shadow Grey Glossy or, just for Esprit Alpine trim, Shadow Grey matt. The roof and door pillars are, according to trim, finished in either Diamond Black or Shadow Grey.
Inside, the new Renault Scenic E-Tech has a light, airy feel, enhanced by a range of elegant fabrics. These are brought to life by 48-colour LED ambient lighting – and ‘Living Light’ tech automatically adjusts every 30 minutes, in step with the 24-hour ‘circadian rhythm’ and time of day. It priorities cool colours in the day and warm ones at night.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech has a 12.3-inch driver display and a 12.0-inch touchscreen which uses Google Android Automotive-based Renault OpenR Link multimedia tech. It brings fully interactive Google Maps and more than 50 dedicated apps from the Google Play store – including an in-car web browser.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech has a roomy, family-friendly interior. Although it’s not as tall as a regular SUV, it still has a high-set driving position, while rear seat passengers have as much knee and headroom as in the largest family cars.
A clever Solarbay opacifying glass roof can turns from clear to opaque at the touch of a button – and those sitting in the new Renault Scenic E-Tech can separately control front and rear sections. As it doesn’t need a sunblind, headroom is improved, and it’s lighter than a traditional panoramic glass roof, too.
Bosses boast there is no leather whatsoever inside the new Renault Scenic E-Tech. The steering wheel is made from a grained coated fabric with a much smaller carbon footprint, yet feels just as posh as real leather. Upholstery in Techno and Esprit Alpine models is 100% recycled.
Size-wise, the new Renault Scenic E-Tech is 4.47 metres long, 1.86 metres wide and 1.57 metres high. It is a little shorter than a Renault Austral, a little wider – and around 40mm lower. With the seats up, it has a roomy 545-litre boot, which expands to an impressive 1670 litres with the seats folded.
There’s ample cabin storage too, almost 39 litres throughout the interior. This includes a four-litre glovebox, door bins offering up to 13.6 litres of storage, a 6.6-litre open stowage area in the centre console and a commodious rear armrest that also slides forwards and backwards by 70mm.
2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech electric motors, performance and range
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech pure electric family car is available with two sizes of battery. The standard range model has a 60kWh battery paired with a 167ps electric motor. It has a range of more than 260 miles and 0-62mph performance in 9.3 seconds.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech high range has an 87kWh battery and a more powerful 214ps electric motor. It has a range of over 379 miles and 0-62mph performance takes 8.4 seconds.
Even the new Renault Scenic E-Tech standard range has speedy 130kW DC rapid charging capability. The new Renault Scenic E-Tech high range will rapid-charge even more quickly at suitable public chargers – at speeds of up to 150kW. Adding two hours of motorway-speed range takes just 30 minutes of charging.
Both new Renault Scenic E-Tech have a standard heat pump. This helps improve the range in extra-hot and cold conditions.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech doesn’t have a traditional round speedometer dial. Instead, it has a 28-degree diagonal speed line, “reminiscent of Renault’s diamond-shaped logo”, which changes colour according to the car’s speed.
Top speed of the new Renault Scenic E-Tech standard range is 93mph, which increases to 106mph on the new Renault Scenic E-Tech high range.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech is based on the modular CMF-EV platform as used by the new Renault Megane E-Tech and Renault Austral. It has a speedy steering ratio, one of the fastest on the market, and a multi-link rear axle that aids ride and handling.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech also has a tight, city-friendly 10.9-metre turning circle.
