MG reveals facelifted MG HS for 2023

MG has unveiled the revised MG HS for 2023. Along with a fresh look, it also features an updated and faster infotainment system.

The 2023 MG HS will retain the same pricing structure as the outgoing model, with prices starting from £23,495 for the SE specification.

The MG HS has proved a popular small SUV and the revised model gets an extensive redesign, debuting a sharper, more aggressive appearance with a bold grille design.

There are also new bi-function LED headlights and a new front bumper. At the rear, there's a new bumper design, revised dual exhaust outlets and LED taillights.

The interior features high-quality, soft-touch materials and a 10.1-inch infotainment system that has been upgraded with enhanced hardware, allowing faster and smoother functionality.

The new MG HS will be offered in two specifications, SE and Trophy, both with comprehensive equipment levels.

All models will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering up to 162PS, with a manual gearbox available as standard and an optional dual-clutch DCT gearbox offered across SE and Trophy specifications.

SE specification includes bi-function LED headlights with front and rear sequential indicators, air conditioning, satellite navigation, rear parking camera with sensors, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and a leather steering wheel as standard.

The Trophy specification adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, rear privacy glass and an upgraded 6-speaker audio system.

MG Pilot, the company’s comprehensive package of safety equipment, is available across the range as standard.

It equips the HS with Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent High Beam Assist.

Customers can also benefit from MG’s 7-year/80,000-mile warranty on all models, which is one of the longest fully transferable warranties in its class.

The new MG HS is available in Urban Grey, for the first time within the HS range, as part of an extensive seven colour palette including solid, metallic and tri-coat options.

The outgoing model of the MG HS was announced as the UK’s best-selling vehicle in January 2023, with over 36,000 units sold.

MG Motor UK will also continue to offer the current plug-in hybrid MG HS PHEV model alongside the new 2023 HS Petrol, providing a range of options for customers looking for an affordable, high-quality new SUV.

Ask HJ

Will a plug-in hybrid save me money if I use it as an EV?

I have an MG HS PHEV. With energy prices being as high as they are right now, is it best to use it on electric power on a daily basis or will it be cheaper to run the car on petrol only?
It's difficult to say and will depend on factors such as your driving style, home electricity tariff and how much you pay for petrol. We'd recommend working out your 'cost per mile' based on your fuel economy with a flat battery and comparing it to the cost per mile using electric power (based on your home electricity tariff).
