Free Ice Scraper and Winter Driving Tips Booklet

As snow-bound winters look set to become an annual hazard, the IAM and Jet Service Stations across the country are launching a safe driving initiative, to advise motorists on handling winter driving conditions.

From Monday 28th November, motorists can pick up a free ice scraper and winter driving advice booklet* from 62 participating Jet Service Stations.

In 2010, vision impaired by rain, sleet, snow or fog contributed to 2,328 accidents, resulting in 3,318 casualties and 20 fatalities. The safer driving booklet includes tips for preparing your car for winter conditions and driving in challenging weather.

IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: “The number of serious crashes on Britain’s roads is reducing and we want to see that trend continue. When the weather is bad, firstly you need to ask yourself do you really need to travel at all? If you do, then preparing your car before you set off is as important as your performance on the road when the conditions get tough.”

Jet’s marketing manager Tony Conway said: “Last year many of our customers were affected by the adverse weather conditions, particularly those living in rural locations. It is so important that motorists understand the perils of driving in adverse weather and this year we are determined to help our local community be better prepared.”

To help drivers stay safe this winter, the IAM has launched a website, drivingadvice.org.uk, with traffic updates, weather forecasts and tips on how to drive safely in winter.

I think regular servicing your vehicle and inspect all your hoses and belts for any wear indications. Specially vehicle battery is most important thing check it fully charged or not.
