60% of motorists annoyed by slow drivers

More than half of all UK motorists are frustrated and become stressed when they get stuck behind a slow moving car. This stressed state leads to almost half of those drivers attempting dangerous overtaking manoeuvres, according to a survey by Confused.com.

According to the Department for Transport these ‘Sunday drivers’ cause as many as 143 accidents a year.

Some UK motorways have minimum speed limits, but there is little that can be done to enforce them. The survey reveals that motorists want some action to be taken against those who drive too slowly.

Suggestions included more widespread minimum speed limits, a slow lane on the motorway and dedicated times during which slow drivers should be allowed on the road.

Peter Rodger from The Institute of Advanced of Motorists (IAM) supports the need for change on Britain’s roads, “All forms of inconsiderate driving need to be tackled. Drivers who are unnecessarily excessively slow lead others to make rash moves.”
