Ford Fiesta 2003 1600 ghia - Transmission whine - david99

Prononounced tranmission whine in 1st, less in 2nd gear, when cold (especially when outside temp is low), reduces noticeably to just audible when warm. Is this normal or a possible problem?

You need to check the level of the gearbox oil and if it has not been changed, it now should be.

Doesn't the Fiesta use the dreadful CVT transmission and if so it does not have 1st, 2nd gears. Might be time to get rid quickly.

Pl can we have some more detail from OP? What mileage is the vehicle on? Is it manual transmission? Does this whine occur in neutral, when idling, cold? If so, is it louder with clutch pedal pressed down. Agree gearbox oil level should be checked, but changing it is difficult , as there is no drain plug fitted.

Sure I read in the original post it was an auto, that info now appears to have disappered. If its a manual ignore my last post.

If its a manual gear whine is not normal. would suggest you get a transmission specialist to have a look at the car.

Fiesta is manual, sorry didn't make this clear. Not present when stationary in/out of gear, only when moving. Has 42K miles FSH.
