Mitubishi Space Star - Will Not Start every now and then - Plazydays

Hi all, I have a Space Star, 1999 1.3 petrol. It works as it should but recently, every now and then when i get in it, it will not start. i get all the normal dash board lights and i have had the battery checked. If i give it a little bump, it fires into life with no problems. I was thinking the starter motor as a first point of call. however, I am not convinced that is the fault as once bumo, it will start with no issues what so ever for a few days to a week or so and then the fault is back. The battery is not that new but had it checked and it was shorted out and held the charge so I am really at a loss as to what to do next. any idea anyone. Whats really annoying is that i cannot find any threads anywhere on the space star starting problem so must be a rare fault

Clean battery contacts fully and remake the connections to the starter motor would be my first move.

Might be dirty contacts on the starter solenoid, or a dead spot on the starter motor itself (possibly worn out bushes), have you tried giving the starter motor a decent tap with a spanner whilst someone else attempts to start the engine.

Good little motor those.

When the starter doesn't work try running a lead from the battery+ to the small terminal on the starter, just touch it on there, if the starter turns its OK and the fault is elswhere possibly the ignition switch. If it doesn't it will be the starter or solonoid at fault.
