i have a w reg ford escort van, i put the key in the ignition turned it to position 2 (all dash lights on) then couldn't get the steering lock off so whilst i was attempting to get it off the key slipped out. So now when i put it back in the key is still in position 2 i cant turn it off or the other way to start the engine and of course cant budge the steering lock. iv tried everything in regards to moving the wheel. just wondered if the problem will be ingnition bolt, steering lock stuck, or maybe worn key. help?

Worn ignition lock barrel. Very common problem on Fords of this age. Over two Fiestas I had 5 replaced! The ignition barrel went while we were camping which wasn't too convenient. I used a tent peg to realign the barrel and it worked, but not for long.
They can be rebuilt to match the key and a new key will be worth getting.
