I thought I'd seen everything after nigh on 30 years of driving: pretty much every act of human (and sub-human) stupidity imaginable on two, three and four wheels. But no.

On Saturday I witnessed from the Place Charles de Gaulle roundabout (under the Arc de Triomphe - as a pedestrian, I hasten to add) a driver in a red Corsa hesitate nervously immediately after one of the twelve exits as he realised he had missed his turning. So he MADE A U-TURN and started driving back in the opposite direction. On realising there were about 500 cars and buses thundering towards him Continental-style (i.e. anti-clockwise) he again TURNED ROUND and drove round the roundabout once more. I couldn't help but watch as a minute later the driver reached Av. Wagram, braked sharply and executed a sharp 90 degree turn right in front of a Czech tourist coach and a police minibus and carried merrily on his way.

One thing I forgot to mention - the car was right hand drive, with a British registration. Ahem.....

I hope the Brit gave all those Johnny foreigners a good shouting at for getting in his way.

Sounds like normal behaviour when driving around that area. Watch till you see someone driving in reverse and exiting the roundabout on the wrong side of the road with everyone scattering for their lives, oh well it's France after all.

On the other hand India is in a league of its own, it's normal to expect any vehical to be driving in the wrong side of the road with no lights on at night, night vision is highly recommended. Daylight driving is no better, no wonder so many are killed on their roads every week.

Nothing surprises me 'Sur la Continent'. The ridiclous habit they have of having to be able to read the dealers logo on your number plate. I drive there a bit and the D roads are excellent, well maintained and very quiet. Driving along quite happily, then the dreaded vehicle approaching from the rear. Me doing a healthy 60mph or so, they travel at 'light speed' to catch me and then sit there 10 feet from my rear for the next 20 miles. Slow down, they slow down, speed up, they speed up. It is so daft. I just give up and pull over and stop and they have to overtake then. It is beyond belief. Mind, when you do see crash out there it is always a Doosie. No half measures, everything totalled. Crazy frogs. Cheers Concrete.

Cretans are insane drivers. On holiday in Crete, I saw a lad picking up bits of his car, on the edge of a steep precipice, after hitting the barrier and spinning so he was facing the other way to the traffic flow. He just put the bits of bumper and his number plate on the passenger seat. He didn't even seem shaken!

Maltese are nutters as well. Those lines in the middle of the road? Optional in Malta!!

I haven't been to Malta for 40 years but it sounds as if they haven't improved!

I still have vivid memories of Maltese drivers - one hand on the wheel, if lucky, the other firmly on the horn.....lorries eith 'Flying Fortress' inscribed on them and driven accordingly.....Maltese buses full of icons to Our Lady, to whom the drivers appeared to be praying as the only means of missing other traffic.
