Hello,
I have a white Ford Focus Mk1 (2000). On the "lower rear bumper" there is some paint damage from the previous owner which I'd like to repair as economically as possible.
I have uploaded a photo of the damage at www.keison.co.uk/100_3246.JPG .
Please could someone advise the best way to do this? Would it be to have a garage paint it or would it be cheaper to replace the bumper?
Thanks for your help!

The bumper looks ok so a respray is all that's required. A garage can easily prep and respray it for you, as long as they aren't too expensive. Get a quote first though. Alternatively if you know how to do it then prep it and rub the bumper down to the raw bumper plastic, then apply primer, then spray on a couple of gloss top coats.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
I shall try and get some quotes then. Do you know approximately how much this will cost?
Thanks.

I think I would be inclined to respray it with an aerosol acrylic or smooth Hammerite paint, you can get surprisingly good results with aerosols and it would be a lot cheaper. I take it its plastic in which case all you need to do is rub it down with some fine wet and dry until its smooth, 600 grit would probably suffice. I resprayed a whole bumper and wing in black a couple of years back and it looked very nice, better than some other parts of the car in fact.

It sounds like this may be the best solution. Will I need to use primer as well? I assume I only rub down the rough edges where it has peeled?

It appears that this bumper has been resprayed previously by the way the top coat has peeled away from the undercoat.
Also the with the gaps between the two sections of the bumper it may be a good idea to remove it to check for any underlying damage to the mountings.

If you rub down the surface sufficiently to take the gloss off the top coat should stick OK.
