I have just registered toattend the Speed Awareness Scheme on 5 March 2012 for a tickect for driving at 32mph in a 30 mph zone. Offence took palce in Nov 2011. I have paid the £97.02 for the priviledge. Now to my surprise I have another one landed today for driving over the limit in 20 mph zone. I had no idea. What a horrible surprise. I have been diving for 40 years with a clean licence. And now two in a row. What happens now? will I get another chance to pay £97 and go on another course or will teh police salp me with 3 points? Does anyone know? HELP!!!!!

Seems it will be in the lap of the Gods whether or not your will be offered another course.

Various Forces set limits i.e. only applies to 30 and 40 limits. Other beyond this.

NADIA states:

The course is an alternative to prosecution, for all speed bands and classes of vehicle speeds except 20 mph zones. Previous driving history will not be taken into account when making an offer.

If you have already attended for the 2011 transgression then NO until 3 years have passed.

Charged for 32 in a 30 seems a bit harsh! They are only guidelines but it used to be charged for limit + 10% + 2mph = 35 in your case. They are only guidelines and I think they have recently been increased ie more generous to miscreants!

I think it would be a good idea to offer such courses to the general public. I would happily pay a fee and attend a course that would improve my road safety awareness. I worked for a company back in the 80's and we all attended a special driving course run by Essex police. The company paid and it was excellent and I still use some of the techniques learned, which teach how to read a situation and avoid it. I have told this story before on the forum, within 6 months several colleagues had accidents. It was speculated that it was either coincidence or over confidence! We will never know. But these courses are a good idea and should be more widely available. It may save our precious licenses. Good luck with the course and the new ticket. Cheers Concrete.

The normal criteria for a SAC is that you have not attended one in the last 3 years. Were both these alleged offences in the same constabulary. If so you may be offered one but when you apply you may be denied access to it. Regards Peter

Nowadays you must do 30 in a 30, 20 in a 20. They have cameras everywhere.

I think a lot of it is collecting a tax off unsuspecting people but I don't really understand either.
