If your vehicle has Teves calipes (as has my Superb) there is a supreme Teutonic design detail to these calipers - the inner pads are handed.
This of course is not immediately obvious (German designed vehicles could be far more reliable if their makers gave the slightest thought to ease of servicing) but if you look very carefully on the leaf spring which clips the inner pad to the bore of the piston, there is an all-important arrow. The arrow denotes the direction of forward wheel rotation.
Any Japanese or American maker would have the sense to design the calipers such that the pads could not be fitted incorrectly - but not Teves. The pads will fit perfectly and work well enough either way, but because the cutouts for the piston contact areas are mirror-imaged, only one way is correct. Incorrect fitment results in rattles.
If only these people could think outside their Teutonic box, their products would be cheaper to own and give much better service in the hands of the quality of labour available in the UK and elsewhere to service them.
