just cleared all sooty deposites out of system by ,an additive and a thrash to pass emissions,next day driving normal,then it just slowed and its like limp mode but no lights and possibly no turbo either,idles fine and drives ok but totaly gutless,help,please

when i said no lights i meant no warning lights on dash all ok,and cant hear turbo anymore

Check the thin rubber pipe that goes onto the top of the injection pump, this senses the turbo boost pressure if its broken or missing you get no turbo boost.

Thanks for the suggestion,but this has a lucas pump and doesnt have the thin rubber pipe,im wonering ,intercooler,or,egr valve,but im no mechanic

Ther must be some way the pump senses the boost pressure, is it a EPIC pump, does it have a throttle cable connected to it or is it fly by wire?

i dont think its the pump,its more likley a sensor or pipe leading to or form the intercooler,or egr valve/turbo,the pump is a lucas and it seems the ecu runs it electronicly,theres only fuel pipes and electronic multi connectors to it,

I suggest you remove the inlet pipe to the turbo and check to see if it is free to rotate. I could be that you have cleaned out the sook but it has jammed the turbo. Regards Peter

sounds like turbo jammed up with dust and stopping it spinning is the wastegate opening? is there enough air going through the ducting?. i also read that it feels like limp mode but no lights (warning) i had all these symtoms aswell and i had a problem with injection harness

thanks for reply and ill look at the harness,problem ive got is on this model i cant get near the turbo to check it theres no room even to get the lower inlet manufold off,may have to move the engine in the bay somehow any ideas,ive got no hoist or crane at my disposal and not much cash to play with,,,i did drive it and it runs ok under throttle but a bit rough when not,but it idles fine,no smoke or limp mode lights,no sound from turbo atall,,,thanks

You can check for turbo operation by disconnecting the air intake pipe at the manifold, if the turbo is working you should be able to feel a strong draught from the end of the pipe.

Old thread but maybe it can help others. I just had exact same problems with my -97 Peugeot 406 2.1 td, Lucas injection. Lack of power, turbo seemed to be dead, no smoke, no engine/K-light in dash. It turned out to be a broken wire at the air inlet temperature sensor. Well worth checking before taking out the engine to change turbo.... ;-)
