Skoda Fabia - Strange Grinding and Knocking noise - squibsquib

When i am slowing down and lighty press the brake pedal i was hearing a grinding noise at first but know its started to make a knocking noise. It only happens when at around 10MPH. The front brakes and pads have been recently changed. Anyone any ideas?

Loose wheel nuts is the first thing that comes to mind. Were the discs changed at the same time, if so did the noise start as soon as the brakes were done or has it come on since?

ABS operating when it shouldn't?

Try removing the ABS fuse and seeing if that cures the problem.

When I bought the car the seller showed me the receipt for new disc and pads. I will just make a check today and see if they have been changed but the brakes feel fine. I will also check the wheel nuts too. If anyone else can give me any ideas that would be great.

Just checked the car and it does not have ABS and the wheel nuts are tight. It only happens under light braking at slow speeds and seems to make the knock each reveloution of the wheel. Sound similar to a CV Joint when you put the steering wheel on full lock but this is when the steering wheel is straight.

Just jacked up the car and tried spining the wheel and there seemed a lot of resistance. I then looked at the pads and discs and they look new. I then noticed that I could move one of the pads that has 3 bits of bet on the back of it which acts as a spring. When I move it it springs back and makes the same knocking noise. Also the Brake fluid resiviour is way by the maximum. Anyone any ideas?

Seized caliper by the sound of it, not too expensive to fix, buy a used caliper, at least you'll know it works !

The grinding is probably coming from the other side as all the brake pressure is now on that caliper and wearing out the pads.

The same thing is happening to my brothers car and it is proving dificult to diagnose.
