Ford Focus mk2 - noise insulation that actually works - MikeTorque

Has anyone fitted any noise insulation that actually helps reduce road noise and other external noise entering into the cabin of a Ford Focus mk2 ?

One area of concern is the rear hatch floor covering that allows some road noise to entry the cabin. Can anyone suggest something that is easy to fit and not too expensive that would help ?

What other areas have you found where fitting noise insulation helps reduce noise levels and improves the internal comfort of the cabin area ?

What brand did you use and how is it fitted ? (i.e. inside the wheel arch inside the boot area or outside under the wheel arches)

Approx. how much nosie reduction did you notice ? (roughly as a percentage)

I had a Mk I Focus and it wasn't that noisy. I tend to put on a really good CD :-))

Seriously, have you had a look at whether the road noise is being supplemented by another noise from something else that needs fixing? Or have a look for something called eDead (which can go everywhere) or Second Skin (which is a door kit)

Having run both MK1 and MK2 Foci, I found the MK 2 far noisier, especially with regard to road noise. Changing the tyres from the original Pirelli's to Michelin Energy seemed to make a significant improvement.

I bought mine from a company selling soundproofing kits. Fit inside the car, alongthe vertical section under the rear seats, along the wheel arches.

If you are really pernickelty, remove rear seats/fold them down and get a passenger to listen and highlight noise.

Most noise if from wheels/tyres and in rwd cars the rear diff.

Also insulate front wheelarches if not done...

What's the product/brand you used ?

Did you turn up the existing wheel arch covers and fit the soundproofing underneath or over the top of the existing wheel arch carpet cover ?

Did you add soundproofing to the boot area ? (underneath or over the existing wheel cover)
