Anyone used Mytyres? - Ethan Edwards

My N Note has an odd sized wheel/tyre and this restricts my choices...a lot! 185/55/16 V rated (no it isn't but don't ask!) . Very very few manufacturers make this size/rating. Uniroyal don't.

Anyway I currently have some Conti Premium Contact 2's on there (OEM) - OK but not great in the wet. I've been reading good reviews about the Falken ZE912's and it's them I'm set on.

Mytyres coming in at about £72 a corner..fitted. Next nearest I can get from the usual suspects is £100 plus or minus. No hurry I reckon I'll be needing them January..ish.

The 912 although a summer tyre is supposed to be pretty good on snow as well.

It's just my suspicious nature. Mytyres being so very much cheaper I wondered if anyone had used them before.....they ship the tyres to a really local indy tyre fitter so thats good.

Anyone?

Yes...They are very good, but fitment does depend on the fitters you nominate my local branch happens to be good. They seem to beat just about everyone on price.

The Falken 912s are great, by co-incidence that is what I chose for my diesel A4 and I do 20K plus per year. I wanted a cheaper tyre than the big brands but not an unknown Chinese tyre that would be problematic.

Tried them a couple of times but they never have any stock and can never tell you when its due. That is with a common 205 55 16 size. Used a web based company called Event Tyres a couple of months ago www.event-tyres.co.uk, cheaper than Mytyres and fitted within 2 days.

I've not used them to buy but regularly use them to check prices and specifications - because my local indie garage is usually pence cheaper on popular tyres..

I've also used Black Circles because they've been marginally cheaper than My Tyres for slightly unusal tyres - you nominate one of their fitters in your area.

I've also noticed that Oponeo is very competitive on price.

I've used Mytyres many times over the years for myself and family and have never had a problem.

I've not had them deliver directly to a fitting shop before but see no problem with this, for example i used Mytyres fitter search facility when my previous local chap moved on, the new fitters charged me more than was stated on Mytyres site, such is life it happens, i put it down to site error.

I emailed Mytyres explaining that the price stated was wrong so they could alter it, and after i supplied the reciept they requested, Mytyres refunded me the difference....i hadn't asked for nor expected such but they were more than courteous.

Have no worries about dealing with them.

Incidentally i've also dealt with Camskills and Tyremen frequently and again, no problems.

I've used them, they were fine, they located & shipped some winter tyres for me last year straight to a garage close to where I live. They will ship to a garage of your choosing if you ask them but check with the destination garage it's ok to do so as the delivery person will need someone to sign for them.

Also you can have the tyres shipped directly to your home, you can then have them fitted by a fitter of your choice including a mobile tyre fitter but they usually tend to charge slightly more than a fixed location garage.

Check the prices mytyres quote, one price is for fitted tyres (including disposal of old tyres) another price is for delivery only.

You may also find a local garage who will price match mytyres and fit them for you as well but check their old tyre disposal cost, worth checking if you know a local tyre fitter.

To be honest I never liked the scenario of taking new tyres you had bought 'supply only' and taking them to another tyre place to be fitted. I cant help thinking they get pretty disgruntled about this, especially in my area.

I cant help thinking they get pretty disgruntled about this, especially in my area.

If they took the trouble to find the tyres i want instead of trying to badger me into fitting something highly profitable for them i would be glad to give them the business.

I used to have an excellent indy but the amture front desk man left and it hasn't been the same since.

To buy winter tyres sensibly means keeping an eye on the various trusted sites throughout the year and hitting the buy now button when the price is right...usually in the summer.

My local independent workshop, which I use for everything where possible, have no problem with this when I phone for a quote for fitting, they do know I'd be bringing the tyres in from somewhere else - if it's a popular size they'll ask for the opportunity to price up their supply, for the popular tyres they can usually undercut slightly so I give them the business.

They know they can't compete on everything and they don't even suggest pricing up themselves for more unusual tyres like SUV All-Season.

If they charge slightly more for fitting if they haven't supplied, that's their prerogative and I have no problem with that as I would know up front.

If you give them the chance to compete and they're still disgruntled you're better off going somewhere else anyway.
