Ugly cars - Miller
A couple of examples of how not to design a new car:

New Vectra - I can only compare its back end to the human equivalent of a 20 stone woman in jogging bottoms, and what the hell is that chrome strip low on the tailgate all about?

Nissan Primera - I like my creases to run down the middle of trousers, not the middle of the entire length of my car!

I await for the owners of these vehicles to spring to their defence, please understand I am only giving my own personal opinion!

Fiat Multiple/pla or whatever it's called, it's horrendous. Had one from Avis once as a hire car and it's just as horrendous to drive. It must be really cramped with 3 people in the front and is it legal to have the fog/driving lights that high up under the windscreeen?? I really hate them!!

You must check out the new Fiat Multiple, seems that Fiat agreed with you and are looking for people that may have avoided first time around.

Dont mind ugly cars as long as they are comfy to drive and practicle.
I drive volvo v40 and is the most impraticle and ergonomically the biggest load of c*** I have driven.And to boot the demisting is also rubbish

Quite - the Tipo might have looked awful but it was a lot of fun to drive - quite chuckable, nippy and a general pleasure. Shame about the Fiat build quality...

I can't comment on the Vectra or Primera, Miller, but one thing I will say about ugly cars is that they probably look better after a road accident.

You couldn't design an uglier looking beast than the van I drive if you graduated from the London School of Ugly with a double first! ...but at least nothing else in the car park is going to snuggle up and indecently assault it.

IMHO I really find the "new" Range Rovers ugly.

Too slab sided (and this from a C5 owner).

Agree with Vercin, the new RR is ugly. To be honest they haven't improved on the original shape with either of the later models.

The Golf is another car that has never looked as good as the original.

Ugly, tacky and aimed at the US market so why do people insist on driving them here - what next, people doing the school run in Hummers???

And as for the idiots that then adorn these with 'bull bars'- aaargh!!!

Whats it with everyone and the Fiat Multipla? I think it is by far the BEST looking people carrier. All the others are bland and boring, looking like they've been designed by Safeways on an uninspiring day.

Fair comment Tom, I still think Multiplas' are an abomination, still they say "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". Not everyone likes Volvos, I can live with that.

Hmmm. The Coupe and the Barchetta are excellent, not sure if they're still making them though. And the Punto isn't bad when you compare it to its rivals.

Definitely with you re the back of the new Vectra, Miller, though from some angles the car looks surprisingly like an A6! (It was dark and raining very hard...).

Don't know about you guys but am I the only one who thinks the current "trend" for building these absolutely hideous MPV things is ridiculous?

Do we really all want to be driving these daft looking vehicles?

Honda Civic? Peugeot 307? And are Ford having a laugh with the Ford Fusion?!

Yes - such a shame a fine car had to be ruined in such a way.

Oddly enough they've knocked 3 grand off the price of these just to get rid.

I wonder if Subaru ever thought of making them easy to convert to the new front end designs - like you could do with the old Rover 200 series. Do you remember people putting the later chrome radiator grille on the G to K reg models?

Also, a car I could never understand was the Citroen XM. Its little brother, the Xantia is a fine looking car - it does does not compare.

I just saw my first Yaris Verso on the M4 today, and I have to add my vote to those above. That is a seriously ugly little car.

On the other hand I have now seen several new Meganes, and I have to admit I rather like it. I wouldn't buy one myself - not my kind of car - but I reckon it looks better in the metal than in photos.

Finally, an ugly car advance warning. Fiat are preparing to unleash an estate version of the Stilo on us. It's hideous.

Time to put the boot into Porsche. With their new found BMW style arrogance they deserve it.

The Cayenne has already been mentioned. Quite right too. The 924 has not aged well, but the 928 is the ugliest Grand Tourer of all time.

I can't bring myself to fault the 911s though.

Theres a car running about at the moment that has to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and I think it beats the Multipla.

I did think it was a Fiat at first but having just looked through their catalogue it either isn't or they're even too embarrassed to show it off!

Its a little sports affair, not too bad from the front but its got this almighty raised box thing on the back! Oh, and a lovely little mould line running all the way around which looks like its been in a horizontal amateur ringing competition!

I just can't b***** remember or find the name of it!!! Argh!

... and I think the new mini is awful too - I love the old "Jet Black" and "Red Hot" versions they did the late 80s.
