BMW X3 2.0d - BMW X3 - lost 4 wheel drive - mj69

My wife’s BMW X3 (2.0D) has suddenly lost 4 wheel drive and now uses only 2 wheel drive. At the same time a number of warning lights came up (ABS Warning, Brake System Alert, Warning Light and 4 wheel drive light). It’s a 56 plate with 75k miles.

On E46 3 series, which i believe your car is based on, a simple ABS sensor failure will bring up all sorts of warnings like this, might not be 4 wheel drive fault at all.

If the speedo packs up too it's one of the rears, N/S ISTR, X3 might be slightly different.

Probably need to get the codes read to find out though, dealer or good indy.

also check the tyre sizes ! have you changed just one tyre recently ?

cheers - funny enough the car had 4 new tyres put on it about 4 weeks before thsi problem occured.

I took the car onto the grass and its definatly shut down 4 wheel drive. As only the back 2 were working.
