Hey guys,
I have a 2008 PASSAT B6 1.9TDI (3C2) that I imported to Ireland from the UK recently. It only came with one key/fob so I'm thinking it would be much easier to get a spare now while I have the original key.
I have VCDS(vagcom). Im guessing that this car has immobiliser IV. However it appears to me that I need an SKC/PIN in order to program a new blank transponder key, both of which I have to obtain from a VW dealer. However I've also read that SKCs on these newish cars are not even available to dealers - their VAG tool has to be connected to both your car and to some VW computer in Deutschland in order to match the keys and hence the dealer doesn't actually see the SKC code. Is this correct or am I way off the ball?
Either way, what are my options for getting a spare key for myself. Is it dealer all the way?? If I have to buy the new key from them and somehow get the SKC from them, am I saving much programming it myself?
cheers
Jim
