Washing machine playing up. - Brill {P}

Any ideas? Machine will spin, drain etc, but when I try to do a new wash it makes the sound of filling without actually doing anything. It just sits there sounding like it's filling ad-infinitum but the sound continues until I give up waiting and turn it off!

Have cleared the filter (was very bunged-up), that's the limit of my technical know-how!

Update:

It seems to be filling with water but never stopping, so therefore not moving to the actual wash stage.

That sounds like your pump or pressure sensor has gone mad. The pump is quite cheap to fix but if you're under warranty you can get them to do it. Sometimes you can force the machine to spin by overriding its programs (you press all the buttons or something depending on the make) esp if you've got washing trapped in there.

OK thanks, I can get the washing out, and it will spin and dry. Just won't stop filling and therefore won't start washing. I'll have to call someone out.

Well this advice seems to have cured it (for now!).

"Unplug the appliance and take the top off.

Look for the pressure switch (there may be two).

Take the thin tube off of the pressure switch and blow down the tube as hard and as long as you can."

Yep - they can get full of gunk and it makes the machine misbehave!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Bobbin, saved me a £50 call out (and whatever parts they would have wanted to sell no doubt!).

You are more than welcome; it's almost always something small. My machine once conked out completely because of a hair grip in the filter. I'd have kicked myself if I had called someone out!
