Mitsubishi Shogun - Anyone persuaded DVLA to change a VED band ? - duncsuk

Looking for a tug for our recently acquired caravan, I've decided on a Mitsubishi Shogun. To avoid paying higher rates of VED, a pre March 2001 model seemed a good bet. Found an interesting one on ebay .. but see that it is an import (seems many are). No worries as such .. I currently drive an imported car.

However, the car is a 2000 model, has a 'X' number plate but was registered in the UK in 2003.

'Normally', such a car would pay the engine related tax of £205. However, because the importer must have advised the CO emissions, it has been assessed as band K .. £245 (and who knows what in the future?)

A quick!! call to DVLA (and dozens of options later), the lad politely said tough luck !

Anyone know if there is a (successful) procedure to ask DVLA to review this ?

TIA

They won't change it unless you change the engine from say petrol to diesel. Or pop in a different capacity engine.

Even changing fuel from Petrol to LPG /petrol when you have a printout proving you emit fewer ceeohtwo's won't change their mind.

Let's be honest here this has nothing really to do with the 'environment' and everything to do with jobsworth money grubbing (un)civil servants.

Cheers,
