informing the dvla of a medical issue - justasking

morning - someone i work with has epileptic and diabetic fits, should the dvla be informed?? i thought you had to be "fit" free for a certain amount of time before you could drive again?? my big concern is if he fits while in control of his car he or someone else could be injured or killed. can anyone tell me if there is anyway to inform the dvla or find out what the law is on this?

thanks

Both he and his doctor are under an obligation to report it.

There is a proper process for assessment.

Most fits can be controlled by medication.

i have read this and i thought that both he and the doc should inform dvla - but neither of them have - is there any way for me to inform them??

Just make certain of your facts before you tell DVLA - you could be opening up a huge can of worms.

Best bet would be to have a talk with him and try to persuade him to report it himself. DVLA will look much kindlier on his case if he tells them himself.

If the chaps doctor is happy with the situation and has not put in a report to the DVLA which he is obliged to.Then surely this is a matter fot the GP and his patient.

That is assuming the GP is aware of the problem....

Hello according to justasking the doctor knows about the chaps problem but haven't informed DVLA.

My brothers wife suffers with epilectic fits, she has the right medication and drives a car with no problems.

No, he says the doc hasn't reported, not that the doc knows about it. I can't imagine any GP NOT telling DVLA
