Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway - I am a bit worried regarding an incident that happened outside a friends house a week ago, and as its my first ever scrape / motoring incident, I am a bit worried (sick) about the outcome.
Details:
I was turning right into my friends driveway and whilst trying to squeeze through the narrow gap left for me by the two cars in traffic, I scraped the corner/ bumper of one of the cars (very minor, almost no damage). Needless to say, the driver was extremely p***ed off and whilest I attempted to straighten out my vehicle and park up in the driveway, out of anger, she tried driving forward to block the gap and managed to cause another scrape of our bumpers! (again, minor paint damage).
At this stage, she was fuming and I recieved a torrent of abuse (never heard so many F words in the same sentence before!).
I calmly apologised and admitted it was my fault. She then proceded to call the police saying that I was 'ramming into her car on purpose'. The phone was passed to me and I spoke with the Police Officer who simply instructed me to pass on my reg details to her (at this point, he also mentioned there was a CCTV now pointing towards us).
I proceeded to write out my name, number, Reg and company car insurance contact number on some paper (in full view of CCTV). Prior to giving her the details, I mentioned if we could settle this now with some cash and she accepted (her car was in poor condition as it is, with alot of damage to the bumper/other side of the car). So I gave her the money (instead of the piece of paper with details) and she drove off.
About 4 hours later, she turned up at my friends place (the house I was visiting) and demanded my friend give her my details. My friend did not want to get involved so declined. She then mentioned she had no choice but to go to the police!!
Friend informs me and since then been so worried I cant even sleep!
I really appreciate if someone here can explain what could happen. I havent informed the guy who manages our company car insurance (thinking I had resolved it - my car has no damage from the incident).
I thought I had clearly settled this outside of insurance, but she obviously wants to escalate things, but I dont think there was a witness.
Should I report this to my fleet manager? Would the police get involved for a trivial paint scratch / minor bumper scrape (given CCTV shows I gave her the cash and she left)
Appreciate in advance if you could provide some wisdom / clarification on this issue.
Thanks.
